Capture the interface

Document users, gloves, cleaning, environment, key or sensing zones, display and LED windows, enclosure, mounting surface, electronics, connector, quantities, and regulatory constraints.

Build the stack and circuit

Propose materials, thicknesses, tactile or non-tactile construction, printed circuit, dome support, tail, stiffener, connector, adhesive pattern, vents, and protection.

Close DFM risks

Review trace spacing, registration, embossing, windows, dead-front graphics, light blocking, bend zones, adhesive lands, edge sealing, tolerances, and inspection access.

Release a sample baseline

Issue controlled drawings and artwork, identify representative materials and tooling, define approval questions, and record which sample and comments govern repeat production.

Membrane switch design questions

Can JASPER design from a sketch or an old sample?

Yes. A sketch, photographs, an existing part, enclosure dimensions, or partial CAD can start feasibility review. Final tooling still needs a controlled dimensional, artwork, circuit, connector, material, and approval package.

What is checked during membrane switch DFM review?

Typical checks cover layer stack, key geometry, trace routing, contacts, tail and connector, windows, lighting, graphics, embossing, adhesive, sealing paths, registration, tolerances, converting, assembly, inspection, and packaging.

Can key feel be specified only by a force number?

Force is one input, but key area, dome type, spacer, overlay, embossing, backing support, travel, enclosure, test method, and subjective reference can change the perceived response. Approve feel in the intended assembly.

When is the design ready for production tooling?

Release tooling after open dimensions, artwork, circuit, stack, connector, materials, sample purpose, critical characteristics, and approval responsibilities are recorded. Unresolved assumptions should be named, not hidden.
